S. Korea Wins First Olympic Medal in Table Tennis

Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yu-bin won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles table tennis event at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, capturing South Korea's first table tennis medal in 12 years.

Lim and Shin defeated Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem of Hong Kong 4-0 at South Paris Arena 4 in Paris.

The Korean duo, who lost to China’s Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha in the semifinals on Monday, not only succeeded in winning their first Olympic medals in the bronze medal match, but also the first for Korean table tennis since a silver at the 2012 London Olympics.  

Meanwhile, North Korea captured its first medal in Paris after Ri Jong-sik and Kim Kum-yong won a silver in the mixed double table tennis final against China. It’s the first Olympic medal for North Korea in eight years.
